Chicago Marathon 2021: Time and How to Registration

The 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon race day

Planning for the 43rd running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is underway with the goal of returning to the streets of Chicago on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

 

Participation of Chicago Marathon 2021

  • Registrants must be able to run the entire distance from start to finish under the event’s time limit of 6 hours and 30 minutes.
  • You must be 16 years old or older on the day of the event to register. Registrants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the registration form allowing them to participate.
  • Before participating in the event, each participant must read and consent to/sign an event waiver. For registrants under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete the registration form and consent to/sign the event waiver.
  • All modes of entry and event participation are subject to the event time requirement and the age minimum.
  • Any participant seeking accommodation in respect of a disability must submit a written request to the Athlete with Disabilities Coordinator at [email protected].
  • Event bibs for participants are exclusive personal identifiers.
  • The Chicago Marathon strictly prohibits the selling, swap or transfer of event entries/event number bibs and may result in disqualification and/or ban from future events for those involved.
  • When the event’s participant capacity is reached, registration is closed and announced.
  • Capacity is subject to adjustment at the event’s and government officials’ discretion. Event organizers will notify attendees of their lodging choices if availability is limited after registration is completed.
  • All event entry fees and ancillary purchases are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Participant Cancellation
    • Participants may pay an additional service fee for a full refund of the registration fee and any additional products purchased at the time of registration if they are unable to attend for one of the reasons listed in the Terms & Conditions Opens a Dialog.
    • Participants may cancel their participation at any time by logging into their participant account. While all event fees (entry, ancillary products, etc.) are non-refundable, except as stated above, and will not be applied to future participation, participants who cancel their entry will be guaranteed entry into the next event.
  • Event Cancellation
    • An event official or governmental official can delay, end early, or cancel the event entirely due to circumstances beyond the event’s fair control, such as war, disease, civil or political unrest, terrorism, or inclement weather. Event officials can outline refund or deferment options in our event policies if this occurs.
    • If the event is canceled, the event will not be responsible for any costs incurred by the participant as a result of the cancellation, including any travel, lodging, or other costs or expenditures, and the event will not be liable or responsible to the participant.

Packet (bib number) pick-up

  • Participants must pick up their own packets at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo during identified hours. No exceptions.
  • Undoubtedly, participants must provide photo identification upon picking up their packets to verify their identity.
  • Participants are responsible for verifying that the timing device attached to their assigned bib number is worn correctly during the race.
  • Event attendees must adhere to Event, city, state and other public health guidelines and orders.
  • Event attendees who are sick should not attend the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo.
  • This includes event attendees who:
    • Have a suspected or diagnosed/confirmed case of COVID-19
    • Are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19
    • Have had exposure to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 within 14 days of event weekend which begins on the Friday before the event.
  • Participants may be subjected to screening prior to attending the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo including but not limited to temperature checks, questionnaires and other health inquiries as required by the state, local or other health authorities.

Participants’ rules

  • Throughout the event, participants must obey the orders of all event officials. They include race staff, volunteers, medical workers, fire and police officials, security officers, and city officials.
  • Attendees must follow all event, city, state, and other public health rules and regulations.
  • Obviously, those who are ill should not attend the event. This includes event attendees who:
    • Have a suspected or diagnosed/confirmed case of COVID-19
    • Are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19
    • Have had exposure to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 within 14 days of event weekend which begins on the Friday before the event.
  • Event participants who will not attend the event due to COVID-19 sickness should notify the event organizers at the office @chicagomarathon.com to discuss entry cancellation options.
  • Prior to attending the event, participants will be subjected to screening, which may include temperature tests, questionnaires, and other health inquiries.
  • Throughout the gathering, they force all participants to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner. This includes alcohol consumption, urinating or defecating in public unless in designated restrooms, and participant obstruction anywhere on or near the course unless facilitated by the event. 
  • In fact, organizers will give each participant a unique bib number. They will not allow anyone to compete in the event unless they have the proper bib number.

Rules of items

  • The Chicago Marathon permits music devices during the race; however, in accordance with USATF rules for championship races, athletes competing for overall awards or prize money may not use music or communication devices during the event.
  • In addition, the event does not permit baby joggers, baby strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, unauthorized bicycles or any other wheeled devices.
  • Additional prohibited items on the racecourse route include, but are not limited to:
    • large bags (backpacks, suitcases and rolling bags)
    • hard-sided coolers
    • costumes covering the full face (except face coverings if mandated by governmental order)
    • any non-forming bulky outfits extending beyond the perimeter of the body
    • props and non-running equipment, including flagpoles and sticks
    • pets/animals
    • alcoholic beverages
    • illegal substances
    • chairs
    • weapons
    • remote-controlled aircraft and drones
    • Camelbaks and any type of hydration backpack

Rules of time

  • Undoubtedly, participants must begin the event at the official start times.
  • The course time limit for the event is 6 hours and 30 minutes. The official finish vehicle will start after the last starter and maintain a 15-minute per mile pace along the racetrack.
  • Besides, participants must run at a 15-minute per mile pace or faster and complete the entire marathon distance (start line to finish line) within the event time limit. Outside of the time limit, runners will not:
    • be recorded or published as official finishers
    • receive full on-course support from aid stations and traffic safety personnel
    • be permitted to complete the entire marathon distance
  • Experts advise participants not to consume alcohol while running for health reasons and to protect the safety of other competitors. They must follow all of the City of Chicago’s alcohol-related rules and regulations. Any runner who poses a risk to themselves or others will be disqualified from the race.
